Hua Jiankun was born in 1945 at Tailai County of Heilongjiang Province. He completed his undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the Department of Oil Painting at Luxun Academy of Fine Art in Shenyang in the 1970s.

Hua Jiankun is an artist with passion for life. Travelling is a means Hua uses to stimulate his creativity; he has travelled extensively around Europe and North America.

Hua expresses his experiences using bold strokes and bright colours. Although his works are impressionist in style, they contain an abstract touch which is emotional and unique.

He has also exhibited in Russia, America and South East Asia. In 1989, he was invited to exhibit at the China Academy of Fine Art, and in 1990 and 1991 in Koyama and Tokyo. In 1992, he held an exhibition in the National Art Museum of China in Beijing and the event was widely reported by local and international media. His works are collected by local and international art lovers.

華劍堃於1945年在黑龍江省太來縣出生，是中國北方著名的印象派畫家。70年代，他就讀於瀋陽魯迅美術學院油畫系，至研修班畢業。

華劍堃崇尚有活力的生命，他進入遼東滿族自治州山區體驗生活；大山裏攝人心魄的自然景色，啟動華劍堃的創作熱情。在投奔大自然之餘，遊歷亦是華劍堃的靈感來源，他一個人獨闖歐洲和北美，體驗既浪漫又艱苦的藝術家生涯。

華劍堃的作品以大膽的筆觸、明麗的色彩，繪出獨特的地方風情和自然景觀；他的作品以印象派為主，但部份作品，介乎似與不似之間，既有抽象畫的神緒，又有形有景，情景交融，有著後印象畫作的抒情，別具一格。

他先後多次應邀赴日本、俄羅斯、美國、東南亞以及內地主要城市舉辦個人畫展1989年作品在北京中國美術館展覽，1990及91年分別在日本小山鎮及東京展覽，1992年再次在北京中國美術館舉辦展覽，廣為中國及海外媒體報道。
