Charcoal Art

Activated charcoal is a fine black odourless and tasteless powder made from wood, coal, nut shell and petroleum coke or other materials that have been exposed to very high temperatures in an airless environment. It is specially processed to make it extremely porous, which gives it a very large surface area available for adsorption and chemical reactions. Activated charcoal is widely used to purify air and absorb odours and harzardous gases.

The use of activated charcoal is becoming increasingly significant in everyday life. The introduction of activated charcoal sculptures is a milestone in its use. A group of Taiwanese artists have applied their artistic creativity to charcoal. The results are beautiful art pieces that can neutralise electrical fields as well as purify air by an ionising process.
